The governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, and the Chairman of Live Oak LNG, Martin Houston, announced plans for a new natural gas liquefaction and export plant on the Calcasieu waterway. Jindal noted, "The global demand for affordable, American-produced liquefied natural gas is on the rise, and Calcasieu Parish is ideally situated to serve that market with its deep-water ports and access to natural gas supplies." The project will create 485 permanent jobs and employ over 1,000 construction workers.
