Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) director, Abigail Ross Hopper, announced on Sept 14 that 40 million acres offshore Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama will be included in the Gulf of Mexico Central Planning Area Lease Sale 241 and Eastern Planning Area Lease Sale 226. The Sale is scheduled for March 2016. Previous sales in the Five-year program have offered over 60 million acres and netted $3 billion for American tax payers. The announcement was part of “President Obama’s all-of-the-above energy strategy to continue to expand safe and responsible domestic energy production.”
