The first shipment of U.S. shale gas to the UK arrived in the Firth of Forth, Scotland, but strong winds delayed docking. The 27,500 M3 of ethane from shale gas is scheduled for delivery to the Grangemouth petrochemical plant, and the owner Ineos said the “gas would secure the future of the plant’s workforce.” Shale gas and hydraulic fracing is highly opposed in the UK by environmental groups and many politicians, and the shipment has been criticized. Scotland has imposed a moratorium on fracing, leading to Ineos making the agreement to purchase U. S. shale gas to maintain operating at Grangemouth.
