Stephen Tindale, the executive director of Greenpeace U.K from 2000 to 2005, had come out with a statement that hydraulic fracturing is needed to help fight global warming.  He noted that natural gas extracted by fracking cuts “greenhouse gas emissions by reducing reliance on coal.” These statements put him in conflict with Greenpeace activists, who are opposed to fracing and energy development. Tindale said, “As a lifelong champion of the Green cause, I’m convinced that fracking is not the problem but a central part of the answer.” Tindale applauded Great Britain’s recent approval of a shale gas project in Lancashire. Tindale is currently heads an environmental think-tank group, Climate Answers.
